Twenty three ramblers followed the swollen River Churnet and then up through Stoney Dale towards the Rangers Youth Hostel. We passed one of the Talbot Dog figurines by the side of the track where Brian L explained its history and we stopped for a tea break at the impressive Earls Rock. We then made our way past the Ramblers Retreat and up Barbary Gutter to the Chained Oak. At luchtime nearly everyone called in the Cricketers Arms PH for a well earned drink.
