Stoke & Newcastle Ramblers

For the first time, Alton’s walking communities are joining together to invite everyone to come and join us on a walk. The aim is to benefit local children and families by raising funds, and to encourage all of us to explore our beautiful local landscape.

Walks:

There will be a choice of walks on offer to ensure there really is something for everyone, including:

1. 5 miles: Chawton Park Woods circuit.
2. 3 miles: Chawton House Park and back; OR 5 miles: Chawton House Park to Farringdon and back via West Meon disused railway line.
3. 1 km: perimeter of the Jubilee Field on the tarmac path.

For walkers wishing to self-guide, maps and detailed instructions will be available on the day. There will be led walks at 10am (3 mile Chawton House Park loop); 12pm (5 mile Chawton to Farringdon and back); and 2pm (3 mile Chawton House Park loop).

In order to save time on the day, we will be asking people to register their interest in attending. Details for that process will be available shortly. It’s free to join any of the walks, but we’d really appreciate your donations via JustGiving, or on the day.

What to bring:

Remember to wear suitable footwear as - who knows! - the ground underfoot may be slippery, muddy and uneven.  Please also bring yourself a drink. 

Refreshments will be available to buy throughout the day at Jubilee Fields, including pizza, ice cream and coffee/drinks

Car parking is available, but as ever please share lifts where you can.

What we're fundraising for:

There are several local charities that specifically support children and young people, and that's where your money will go. We're aiming to raise £1000 for each of the following - a grand total of £4000! - and thanks to the challenging walk already undertaken by Ian Fleming, we are already well on our way. We're collecting donations via JustGiving, so whether you'd like to donate for yourself, to 'sponsor' someone who is walking on the day, or in lieu of taking part - or perhaps all three! - we would be very grateful for any amount you can contribute. The funds will be coordinated by Alton Lions, who are supporting the event, and distributed equally among the following charities:
