Barnard Castle is a historic market town in County Durham, England, famous for its medieval fortress ruins and the French châteaux-style The Bowes Museum. Walking to Barnard Castle will see us in the footsteps of Walter Scott, Charles Dickens, J.M.W. Turner and Wordsworth! Walks here take in woodland trails, the River Tees, Egglestone Abbey, and the Meeting of the Waters the dramatic rocky meeting point of the Greta and the Tees rivers.: dramatic enough for Turner to paint here.
